I compared
this program with Antivir free
edition. Avast doesn't up-date
as frequently and also missed a
virus that Antivir detected.
Avast! checks e-mail by
altering the digital address it
is directed through. When I
un-installed it,it left the
digital address altered, so my
e-mail didn't work - so I had
to look-up the correct 'DNS'
addresses and alter them back,
to correct the
problem!

avast!
is low on memory usage
and offers a good variety
of options for both
novice and advanced users
to choose from. What I
liked most was that
avast! offers rookit and
spyware (some) detection
in addition to virus
scanning.
What amazed
me was that avast! offers more
"shields" than any other AV
program. Maybe not shields, but
a decent security
add-on.
avast!
promoted it's product with the
"Animation vs. Animator 2"
which was well done with Flash.

There is
nothing about the make-up of this
"Truly-Performng"..Anti-Virus
program, That cannot be liked.This
program was concieved and built by
people that (Truly) understand the
need for a program that need to do
what it claims to do plus...a whole
lot more.These are truly the
"Great" minds, when it comes to
producing a program that does it
all and providing the security that
is demanded these days.Avast is the
best anti-virus program that anyone
could hope to have and,beats just
about (All) the $Paid$ versions on
the market anywhere and, anyone
anyone that knows anything about
"Viruses" and...how they function
and mutate will agree,unless they
are just out-right STUPID and
Ignorant to the Facts concerning
the damages that just (1)
virus/bot/key-logger/ etc./can
do.Avast is ... The Best!If you can
get a good anti-virus and
especially one that works just as
well on Malware,you have something
that is worth hanging-on to.

I've
used Avast home
edition for
over 2 years
now with no
problems and
(AFAIK) no
infections. I
get hundreds of
spams,
including
infected files
daily (because
of a web site I
run), and Avast
catches or
marks as
suspicious
every virus
that gets sent.
It also catches
and protects
the occasional
virus from web
bad
sites.
I
tested this and
AVG and found
Avast to be
much easier to
set-up &
use (YMMV),
although some
settings are
located in less
than intuitive
places.
Program
and virus
database
updates are
automatic, ask,
or manual --
your
choice.
Note:
the home
edition is not
for use in
business or
non-profits.
