Personal Free Antivirus 8. It
has an enhanced interface, a modularized
AV-search engine for improved
performance, an integrated failsafe
security system.
Its extensive malware
recognition systems filter out threats.
It provides permanent virus protection
with Virus Guard real time monitoring.
The heuristic scan can be left turned on
or off completely or partially, with
three different intensity
levels.
Avira allows user to
fully scan all hard drives. The
quarantine, which keeps infected files,
is extensively thorough, too. The
spreadsheet like layout displays all
relevant information about the
quarantined files. It even gives you
options to scan it again, restore,
delete.
The scheduler is fully
customizable. Virus definition files are
available at Avira's web site if needed.
There help features are impressive. It
has description box relaying mouse-over
information on each feature. Version 8.0
has introduced a faster engine and faster
definition file updates, both of which
are instantly noticeable
improvements.
The software is a
little bit slow in updating procedure. It
lacks POP3 or SMTP scanning in the free
version, which means you do not get any
support for desktop level email
protection. Its frequent ad showing
behavior is too some extent annoying.
Although we could shut off AntiVirs and
its Guard, there was no way to remove the
icon from the system
tray.

product is one of the best
free antivirus. The detection
rate is high on tests, on
sites such as
AV-comparatives. If you
configure the program
correctly, then it can detect
malware more effectively,
although this can trigger
false
positives. |

I must admit,
when I first came across this anti
virus, I was quite skeptical. After
plenty of bad experiences with free
and pay anti viruses alike, I was
not too sure that this would do a
good job on detecting viruses...
especially after noticing the not
that attractive interface *somehow
it just always makes you think
maybe the program is as cheaply put
together as the interface is...*
Boy, was I wrong! I soon realized
the simple interface simply helped
make this program very light on the
resources, and the first time I ran
a scan with it it found 5 trojans
that my previous antiviruses never
even picked up on! Even a while
after that I remained skeptical of
its scanning being so quick...
but... since then it has continued
to be excellent with its
protection... often finding viruses
that aren't even in its virus
definitions... and as said before,
even on a full system scan, this
program takes a very short amount
of time to get done with its job,
even when you have it scanning at
the same time you're running other
applications. If ever asked what
piece of software I would recommend
most, free or pay, I would
definately recommend
this. |
