Unlike other anti spyware tools, SpywareBlaster 4.1 prevents spywares from being installed in the first place. SpywareBlaster prevents the installation of unauthorized ActiveX-based dialers, spywares, adwares, browser hijackers, and other potentially unwanted programs. It can also block tracking cookies in Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape and many other browsers.

IE tools are useful as they can block all flash contents, create encrypted backups of the host files, manage browser page settings, block cookies, and create customized ActiveX blocks. Mozilla Firefox and Netscape-specific protection only offers cookie blocking.

You can create a customized blacklist that will function across multiple browsers. With the built-in Check for Updates feature, you can help ensure your protection is up-to-date. SpywareBlaster also includes a System Snapshot feature, which lets you take a snapshot of your computer in its clean state and later revert, undoing unauthorized changes made by badwares. SpywareBlaster is freeware for personal and educational use. The intuitive interface is uncluttered and easy to use.

There is a surprising missing – This tool doesn’t support Opera browser. Automatic update is not available in free version. $10 a year will cost to avail automatic definition file updates and technical support. It’s malware removal capability is not that mush satisfactory.

This is a really fantastic program...it doesn't fix your spyware problems, it stops you from having them in the first place! In short, it focuses on prevention instead of removal by blocking dangerous sites (on both Internet Explorer and Firefox). Another aspect that I consider an advantage is the fact that it does not need to be running in the background to work. Simply open the program once a week, download the latest protection and you're good to go. And it's free!
