Like Trend Micro’s HijackThis, here is another
tinny free tool to provide you security against
online threats - Trend Micro HouseCall
6.5. This tool checks your system
whether it is infected or not by viruses. If
infection found, it will attempt to heal your
pc.
Again,
this security utility prevents re
installation of malicious program. Unlike
many other tools , HouseCall 6.5 has
support for Linux libc 6 and Solaris 2.6(
+ above) as well as windows operating
systems of various versions. It can
integrate the security within Internet
Explorer and FireFox.
Last
but not the least, It can also be used
with Macintosh Computers. There are two
independent options available regarding
core engines. You must set the security
level to medium to use its ActiveX Core
Engine with Internet Explorer. Again, to
let the Java VM Core Engine work, you
have to install Java
VM.
As Trend Micro HouseCall 6.5 is
free, you should not expect everything from it.
But users accused it for not providing the
least. It is reported that HouseCall took more
than one hour to complete scanning and even
failed to clean the infections.
May be this is an exceptional
case. But we think it should improve in two
sections – the size of the program and
continuous hammering to buy the full version.
Because these annoying and unwanted
characteristics, along with sluggish scanning
speed, are enough to discourage users to buy
even to try trend Micro products.
